How to paint iron

Iron is very used, it has got good advantages, but it feels effects of atmospheric agents. The process of the corrosion consumes the iron provoking serious damages.
For this reason, is indispensable a correct protection and maintenance of the iron structures. Italcrom proposes a complete range of painting cycles for the protection and the maintenance of the iron.  

Advice for a best result

Necessary tools
The tools used in order to paint the iron are: paint-brushes of shape and various dimensions, iron brush, abrasive paper with medium/thin grain, crisped masking tape, rags cleaned up, old newspapers or width of plastic.

How to prepare paint brush

Before using them, putting paint-brushes in water to bath for approximately 30 minuts. Therefore, wash them with water and soap and then clean up and squeeze them in order to eliminate water. After to put the paint-brushes in diluent and then to squeeze.

.... iron never painted before

Often on new iron, it's possibile to find calamine traces (small black flakes).
It's necessary rub down in order to remove this flakes. Then to dust and apply 1 hand of our Vinciruggine s.905 in order to protect iron from atmospferic agents. In this way, the support can be painted after some days or after some weeks with equal result. Before painting, we suggest to clean up the surface with water jet and after to make dry. Applying 1 hand of antirust and make dry for 24 hours.

In this way the surface is ready to be paint with enamel. In order to choose antirust and enamel, we suggest to follow painting cycles. So you will be able to select the right product in function of the conditions of application and whished results.

If the surface is in good conditions and it has not rust point, is sufficient to rub down, dust and then paint it directly with enamel. 

If, instead, the surface is in bad conditions or however it has rust point, to remove with iron brush the parts that are detached, to rub down with abrasive paper medium grain and then to dust.

Continuing, as for the new iron, to apply 1 hand of antirust and to make dry at least for 24 hours. In this way the surface will be ready to be painted with enamel.

Rust converters

It has the function to transform the rust, through a chemical reaction, in an inert compound. It makes unnecessary to rub down, dust and sand-blast.

Antirusts

Texas s.610
Synthetic antirust, good to protect not galvanized iron. It can be used when it is not demanded a long lasting protection or an high resistance for atmospheric agents.

Antiruggine sintetica ai fosfati di zinco s. 621
Synthetic antirust made up of zinc phosphate, very good in order to protect not galvanized iron.

Res s. 623
Fast drying antirust to use as passive antirust protection or as or as first coating in synthetic, oilsynthetic and clorosynthetic painting cycles, adding rapid drying feature.

Supertenax s. 612
It's a nitro antirust with a good filler and protecting power, easy to rub down, fast drying. It protect not galvanized iron.

Suppzinc s. 632
Non-toxic primer, suitable to the anchorage of every kind of finish on iron, alluminium, light alloy and galvanized iron.

Minio di piombo s.620 – Product to exclusive professional use

Antirust with a large quantity of red lead for high protection of iron and the bottom of the ships (made of iron or wood).

Primer Epocrom s. 613
Epoxidic antirust, with high adhesion and high anticorrosive power. Very suitable to prepare galvanized support or to paint with every type of enamels.

Enamels

Hycoat s. 283 – Tintometric System product

Acrilic water based enamel,odorless, it's suitable to protect iron, wood, galvanized surfaces, wall already dealt. it is formulated in order to answer to the requirement to replace the traditional products, solvent based, with with ecological solutions, water based.   Characterized from good brilliance in the time, good resistance of the white point and not inflammability.

Lait s. 213 – Lait satinato s.240– Tintometric System product

Synthetic enamel with high covering, odorless. It's suitable to resolve every type of problems for finishing on wood or iron. In the versions brillant and opaque, it's resistent to light, it has easy to apply with paint brush. Labeled like non-toxic in function of CEE directive n.77/728 and follows, being free from chromium and aromatic solvents.

Ideal Nuova Formula s. 219 – Tintometric System product

Plastic solvent for outside, odorless, with high covering power. It's suitable in order to make finish of wood and iron surfaces. Its brillant colours protect and decorate every kind of support.

Smalto antiruggine all’acqua s.201

Acrilic water based enamel, with high antirust power. Whit one hand, it gives a good finish on galvanized sheet, iron, container, for outside and inside use.

Smalto “e mi diverto…” s.241

Synthetic enamel, odorless, with high covering power. It has much elaticity and a vaste range of brillant colours. It's easy to apply. For its features, it's a very good solution on wood, iron, wall. It's available to make small jobs in order to restore or give the last touch on our daily thing.

Vernice oro s. 708
Decorative enamel, based on bronze in powder, very good in order to decorate or gild surfaces made of wood or iron.

Relux s. 296 – Tintometric System product

Alkyd enamel, with very fast drying. It's available in order to finish treated surfaces made of iron. It's has a brillant film and a good covering power. It can be applied directly on galvanized sheet, previously degreese, on nitro antirust or fast drying antirust. It's particularly suitable for agricultural, building, industrial machinaries and every kind of iron surfaces located in industrial environments.

Cromloid s 270
Alkyd enamel, made up of nitrocellulosa. It's suitable to finish iron surfaces in order to give good resistance during the time, fast drying, good thinness. It is suggested to finish agricultural, building, industrial machinaries or iron surfaces located inside.

Cromloid s 271
Industrial nitro enamel, with high covering power, good diluting and good hardness. It's suitable to give a good finish (like egg peel) for metallic machinery.

Fermic s. 723 (fine grain) - s.765 (big grain) – Tintometric System product

Antirust finish, odorless, made up of ferromicaceus. It's the most effective answare in order to finish iron and metallic structures as gate, grates and railings, when it want to obtaine, at the same time, anticorrosive function and a particular finish (burnished aspect typical of the wrought iron). Very resistant to the atmospheric agents it introduces onother advantage: for its gelatinous consistency the product is very easy to apply. It does not strain and allows to catch up elevate thikness, increasing the protection.

Martex s. 267
Synthetic enamel, applicable by paintbrush. It is used in order to obtain the hammered effect, good in order to paint metallic furnitures, shelvings, scientific apparatuses, metallic surfaces.

Alluminio ad alta temperatura s.709
Special product, based on alluminium, available to finish metallic surfaces engaged to high temperatures. It's resistant until 650°C.

Alluminio brillante s.705
Varnish, made up of alluminium, suitable to finish vaults and terraces, lockings, handmade engaged to high temperatures, more than 90°C, It gives a particular decorative effect. For its structure, given from the aluminum, it's very suitable to waterproof in bitumen ( asphalt and tar cardboard). It has a a high degree of reflection that allows the structures not to absorb the solar beams with the consequence to remaine constant the temperature of below loft.

Alluminio bituminoso s.711
Varnish, made up of alluminium, suitable to waterproof and to finish surfaces in bitumen (asphalt, tar cardboard, vaults and terraces).

Navale Mec s. 223
Navale Mec 65 is made up of oleosynthetic resins and selected pigments which gives to the support good time of life and good aspect. It's easy to apply and fast drying. It's suitable to finish surfaces on iron or wood, outside and inside, for not aggressive atmosphere.
